Registration of Chess players Association of Nigeria (CPAN) matters arising.

I was playing a tournament game on “chesscube.com” this morning and was in a critical point of the game, my highly rated opponent has just played Bxf7 ?! sac against me in a double edged position when I got a phone call from CM Charles Campbell who has been very passionate about the registration of Chess Players Association (hereinafter referred to as CPAN, he wants us to take positive steps immediately , here is my 100% “Humble suggestion” both as a chess player and a Legal practitioner.

Ordinarily the first step to be taken towards incorporating CPAN as an NGO is apply to Corporate affairs Commission (CAC) for Availability and Reservation of the name, however reservation is only for sixty days , and since the registration process is very tedious (even for the most experienced Lawyer)and can be hampered by many queries/delay from CAC for omission of even minute details we must ensure the perfection of every thing we need for the entire process,

Before the lawyer’s ’ move’ towards availability and reservation of name we must satisfy the following Pre registration requirement !!

Get the following ready;

1. Name of the association (we already have that ) Chess players Association of Nigeria CPAN

2. Choose the aims and objectives of the proposed Incorporated Trustee normally minimum of 3 and here is a Sample.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES
1. To identify, locate and bring together under one forum all Nigerian chess players based in Nigeria and abroad.
2. To compile an up-to-date database of each players bio-data and profile.
3. To commence a sustainable youth talent discovery and development program at all tiers of our educational system in Nigeria.

3. c. Address of The Association

d. Names of the Trustees (They must be 2 or More)

e. 2 passport photographs for each of the Trustees

f. The personal residential addresses of each of the Trustees

g. Occupation of each of the Trustees

h. Tenure of each of the Trustees, the removal and filling of the vacancy of the Trustee

i Auditor

j. Membership

k. Common Seal (The seal must be made in Metal that can be imprinted on and must be physically inspected at the CAC

L. List the Executive Members of the association i.e –President, secretary, Financial secretary, auditors etc

After getting the requirements Ready then we move to the next step-

Here is the A-Z of the requirements for the next step (Round 2)

Registration of incorporated trustees

1 Availability and reservation of name

2 procurement and completion of application form

3 Publication of notices in three (3) Daily Newspapers,2 National dailies and one being a local newspaper widely circulating in the area where the association is based clearly stating the name of the Association, the Trustees and calling for objections to the registration of the Association.

4 submission of duly completed typed application form which should be accompanied by the following

a. Availability of name search report

b A former letter of application signed by the following persons- chairman, secretary or applicants solicitor.

C The Original Newspaper publications

D 2 copies of applicants’ constitution , 2 photocopies of application form,

E Minutes of the meetings whereat the trustees were appointed, having the list of members present and absent and showing the voting pattern signed by Chairman and secretary of the board. The minutes must be on letter headed paper of the association.

F Minutes of the meeting whereat the special clause rules was adopted into the constitution of the Association signed by secretary and chairman showing list of members in attendance.

G Trustees should attach 2 passport –sized photograph each- (1) one attached to enclosure (2) one attached to IT declaration Form sworn to at the High court (Note that trustees should attach receipt from High court)

H Trustees should sign against their names on the application form (ENCL D), Furnish permanent residential addresses and state their occupations.

F The common seal of the Association should be impressed at the appropriate column of the form.

I payment of fees DRAFT in Favour of CAC made payable in Abuja

That brings us to the question of fees It Basically I will suggest between N170,000-N200,000 to register an NGO with all the fees included. Personally, if i am drafting/assessing the Constitution, i always add something extra to that fee because of the time and stress involved. It takes days, sometimes weeks to get a perfect constitution without CAC query and it is the most cumbersome thing involved minus drafting the Minutes of the Association getting the signatures and forms in tact. It could be very frustrating even for the very experienced corporate Lawyer. i believe Oke Onoruvie can handle it since he is on ground in Lagos and i will try my best to make suggestions to him in any way i can

on a candid note here are some the advantages of getting CPAN registered

a. It becomes a body Corporate i.e It has a right to sue and be sued

b. It has a Legal Personality i.e No one Man can claim it to be its own no matter the amount of Money a person donated. i.e despite the Billions invested by Bill Gates in the Bill gates Foundation, it doesn’t belong to him but he can be a major influencial Trustee amongst the board of Trustees

c. Perpetual Succession: It continues for life and even after the death of the major donors or board of Trustees, it continues with new Trustees taking over i.e if the Principal Pastor of Church dies, the Church continues and a new successor and new board of Trustees take over.

d. Power to Hold Land: This is a Major factor in being a Non-governmental organization (NGO) or Incorporated Trustee. The CAC is very particular about Non-governmental organization (NGO) or Incorporated Trustees Having the capacity to own lands or buy lands for its operations immediately unless it won’t be registered
e . Capacity to own a Common Seal:

It can deal directly with sponsors and organize tournaments, the Association will be registered as an NGO.

Latest on 34th edition NCF/ NB PLC Chess tournament 2011

While chess players are still agitating for better chess tournaments and raising issues concerning improved conditions of the annual Chess tournament popularly known as NBL. i saw what is written below in punch this morning.

Foreign stars for NCF/NB chess tourney
International Masters, Dapo Adu (USA) and Odion Aikhoje (UK) are amongst the foreign-based stars expected at the 34th Nigerian Breweries/Nigerian Chess Federation International Open Chess Championship which will take place at the Indoor Sports Hall, National Stadium, Lagos from November 7 to 12.

Aikhoje is the only Nigerian and third African to win a gold medal at the World Olympiad in 1998. The competition would be played in eight categories namely FIDE, Category I and II, Ladies, U-14 (boys and girls), sports writers and veterans.
A total sum of N890, 000 has been earmarked as prize money for the event with the FIDE winner getting N200, 000. Category I and II winners will receive N70, 000 and N50, 000 respectively while the Ladies winner will go home with N65, 000.
The U-14 boys and girls category winners will win N20, 000 each while winners in the SWAN and veteran categories get N20, 000 and N50, 000 respectively.
NCF President, Sani Mohammed, who was represented by the body’s PRO, Femi Solaja, at a media briefing in Lagos on Thursday, said the long partnership with NB has helped improve the fortunes of the country’s chess players.
He said, "Our partnership has yielded fruits as two of our national male players Olamide Ajibowo and Charles Campbell recently joined the ranks of several Nigerian players that have bagged the prestigious FIDE titles following their brilliant performance at last year’s World Chess Olympiad in Russia."

To me the title is a bit misleading and could be termed as strategic misrepresentation. - GM Akinov

My silicon chess training declared open!!

Ondo state got (team) silver at National Sports Festival 2011

wow the Ondo state chess team gave a good account of themselves. as a team. Team Rivers got the team Gold medal while Delta state got the team bronze medal in the men chess Event. Nosa who played for Edo state tied with Odafe who represented FCT Abuja for the best on board five and had to play a tie break five minutes blitz to decide who takes the Gold, Odafe with his wealth of experience got the Gold eventually while Nosa settled for Silver. as for me i am hoping to be at the next National Sports Festival to be hosted by Lagos state Next year.........perhaps i can grab a medal Gold preferably ....but before then i have to make an impact in the next Nigerian Brewries international chess Opens (if i manage to make it to the Event) .the question remains Which category will i feature in?? hmm Time will tell meanwhile i have been playing online to test my reflexes. Chess is immortal !!

Chessing it out in Ondo state chess camp

Hmm .... i was at the Ondo state camp for National Sports festival, hoping there was going to be a space for me to represent my state at the 17th National sports festival in River state , but Alas !! the space has been filled up, No trials as all the representative of the state were hand picked by the coach unlike last year when everybody fought on the board for their respective shirts.

well , i tried my skills on the players i met at the camp and i did not do badly at all and if there has been a competition i would have qualified among all those NEW GENERATION PLAYERS (LOL) i can take any of them even in my state of being rusty though i learnt a few lessons from the two days i showed up at the camp. i need to work on my opening and my knowledge of theory. am hoping to playing in the next sports festival (in Lagos i guess).

meanwhile my plans for a chess club, a monthly chess tournament and pehaps Fawole Johns Bruv chess (Details later) my journey to chess mastery continues!! - GM Akinov

Today i was feeling more confident in my ability to free style and win in the chess game. i was at Zone six Garden (Abuja Nigeria) and found out we can organize a Tournament...Round robin winner takes all. the tournament got started and i won my first 3 games out of 6 my next game i played well and had a Rook and king versus King......under normal circumstances i can chakemate my opposition with my eyes closed......one thing led to the other the guy placed his king in the middle of two squares...i was actually to tell him to adjust his piece but due to excitement i played my Rook to the square next to the king??? he took it and game was drawn......it ruined my interest in the last two games even when my next opponent was half point behind me and i came back from a piece down but misplayed the end game due to same problem but coupled with the disappointment of the game earlier played..........since it was winner takes all....... moral of the story is i have to learn to keep my excitement under control and also to keep my nerves intact because i stll have to battle much much better players very soon................by the time i leave this low level of chess lol......am still on the way to become Nigeria's strongest chess player...matter of time!! investment in early dissapointments and learning from it is crucial to getting there at long last

Well as of yesterday i know i have no repertoire of chess opening at least not anymore since i stopped playing active chess a long time ago....but then i always have an idea of how to co ordinate my chess men......i still intend to get a water tight repertoire as soon as possible! i was at zone six Garden Abuja where i played blitz....i am not a particularly fast player and even if i am fast you dont expect my reflex to be as good asa the guy who plays lightning chess wevery day...well as the story went one gist led to another and he said he was going to give me knight odds.....we did and i lost the3 first few games....not because he was a better chess player but because of the pshychology of the challenge and i was also not fast enough....eventually i picked up and started winning my "blood " back three minutes chess........we even played two normal games after where no odds was involved and i weon both.....though we did not "Blood" but i took something from the encounter.............am begening to get my chess reflex back.....after that i have something more......it is inexplicable but i know i am begining to get my chess grove back!!

my second day since i created this blog, though i did not do much today aside playing a few blitz games with chessmater 9000 . .......and one or two games on chesscube, well i came across a few articles and products online that i may wish to explore in future,
i dont know how good this is but a trial will not hurt

Adrian Mikhalchishin, a Grandmaster since 1978, is currently among the top 5 world trainers and FIDE Trainers Committee Vice-Chairman. Mikhalchishin starts things off by saying that there are two ways to become a stronger player: 1) By carefully analyzing your own games to eliminate your mistakes. 2) By studying the “classics,” but in a very special way. The goal is to learn how to handle the different aspects of the game; different plans, typical structures, how to exploit weaknesses, how to correctly defend when needed, how to exploit material imbalances, etc. sounds like a great idea i want more of that and i guess i can put some of these things to use even before i get this DVD

4. Training with very strong opponents and steeling myself........in the silicon playground playing my best and improving to at least 2700+ in rating!!
Sounds like a plan...right?

Meanwhile the chess olympiads is still on and my darling team Nigeria is participating...Round two comes up tomorrow and its going to be Nigeria vs Korea well am looking forward to playing at the olympiads 2012 40th Chess Olympiad Istanbul, Turkey ....maybe the next one if all these little chess plans work out fine i want to achive this enjoying every bit of it....take it as a game, no pressure ..LOL

Hi,
I am Akinseye Akin Known by those who loves to flatter me as GM Akinov -Half man Half chess but am i really half man half chess? am i a GM? maybe " General Manager" But certainly NOT a chess GM Grandmaster i am from Nigeria and so far as of today we have produced NOT even a single grand master yet we have a population of 150 million plus......we have a number of IMs International masters and FIDE master but NO Grand master......well perhaps i can become Nigeria's First Grand master.........Hmmm but first how is my chess? well first and fore most i do many other things apart from chess, i am into a bit of computer programming and Legal practice as well being a Nigerian trained Lawyer, i am also the brain behind HYPERNIGERIA INTITIATIVE comprising of a discussion Forum and also a blog on Nigeria and.......well back to the basics of this blog................

Oh well i started playing chess in 1994 taught by a Liberian citizen Eugene Russel.....Blah blah blah over time i have played in several tournaments but nothing much apart from occassional show of brilliancy i have been far from being consistent....best tournament i had was placing third in UNIBEN classic tournament...........and presently i have been off chess for a while....but i still love the game and i want to at least get to my peak COMPETITIVELY before i take my leave from active chess.
What do i want to do now?
Big question?
well let me start with what i intend to achieve.....hmmm
em......
1. i hope to play in Masters category and win meaning i want to be Nigerian chess National champion as soon as i can hopefully by this year !!
2. i intend to play in the next chess olympiads ...representing Nigeria
3 i intend to get FIDE titles at least IM international master after which i will play in tournaments ...hopefully FIDE rated tournaments
4 ........and depending on how the tournaments goes maybe get my 3 GM norms and eventually become a GM chess Grandmaster
Now how do i intend to achieve this bearing in mind that i do other things aside chess.....hmmm
well my spare time will be used consistently...........
A) i will go through CFAP my secret chess book of chess fundamentals and principles as many times as possible and other materials both in prints and interactive softwares.

B) i will chose my repertoire of chess openings.....using the wide option range system

C) i will study and learn the basic lines of my chosen Arsenal and study model GM games, Classics and the what ,how and why of the openings and also in terms of plans, pawn structure and end game possibilities in mind.
D) i will learn partterns and be involved in chess tactics training using puzzles.....and more

E) i will train hard at the "silicon" play ground and steel my self and taking note of my rating and how i handle my openings and trying to perfect them......playing training games, Rated games and matches against the "Cyborgs" this i will do till i consistently rate 2700 + in the silicon play ground!!

F) i will play countless games online , trying my skills on real and not so real people around the world and again note my ratings.

my aim here is not to put my self under any kind of preasure but to relax, play my best always and just get to my peak!! The journey to mastery starts now and i shall continue to update this blog as i progress my match result and possibly Games and annotations........let the trip begin!!
